Well, the flea has thrown me! Because that makes me think either Shosta, Wm. Blake or Feydeau and I was going down a musical theatre route in which fleas have no place! Can anyone confirm, just as a piece of trivia, where the expression of eyes being the window of the soul comes from? Is is Shakespeare or The Bible, I cannot find this out.

Neither. It's generally held to be just a proverb, it seems, though may owe something to Cicero's "Tusculan Disputations" (who apparently refers to the ears and nose also being windows to the soul). Vinmousseux may able to assist more precisely!!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I guess that's about the Spaniard, but I got in the way?

I don't know, to be sure - but it is one of the answers.

                    Or Dry Fly

I understand a dab of linseed oil will do the trick

                        It certainly doesn't appear sane!

                              Two down, two to go.....
Spanish Harlem (written by Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector, recorded by Ben E King among others)
Spanish Flea (written by Julius and Cissy Wechter, recorded most notably by Herb Albert)
I'll accept the change of mood either in the original language or in the widely-used English translation.

First time I've thought about that tune for 30 odd years, since it was a staple of our school concert band (very boring trombone part )
