I can offer a fairly straightforward 'F' (mind you, everybody thinks their questions are straightforward, don't they?

Go for it Norfy! Although, bearing in mind Flay is in the Highlands & Islands, Caliban is in Paris (did he go over for the Francois Hollande bash?), others are working all day, please don't be disappointed if your question is left hanging for a while ........ I'll be back on line late morning though!

OK, folks, here's your 'F':
The first played an actor in a 1960s musical;
The second played himself in a Martin Scorsese film;
The third was a guest star in an MGM musical; and
The fourth played saxophone and other instruments.

If there have been no nibbles by ca. 1430 hours (by which time I shall have returned from lunch), I shall offer a couple of clues if required.

I've only just started to look at it, not getting too far at the mo, I suspect others haven't had a chance, is the 1960s musical stage or film?

Promised clues:
The first F played an actor in the London stage version of a musical.
The star of the MGM musical in which the third F made a guest appearance was Cyd Charisse.
The fourth F was born in the Prairie State.

Norfy, I'm really struggling with this, Hollywood movies and musicals are out of my comfort zone. I've been hoping mercia (where are you?) or ferney might be along shortly to help out, but it's an odd time with so many away.
Anyway, I have no idea of the 60s stage musical or the saxophonist at the moment but I offer my (possible?) findings so far, without a lot of confidence:
Frankie Laine - guesting in Meet me in Las Vegas
Frankie Avalon - as himself in Scorsese film Casino

you've done far better than me, Anna
I've found no-one playing themselves in a Scorsese film
I've decided there are far too many musicals starring Cyd Charisse for me to trawl through
ditto 1960s London-staged musicals. with Anna's pointer towards Frankie I offer Frankie Trumbauer as an Illinois-born saxophone player
