Anna - it's in fact a bacon and sage brioche. You can even see a picture here, in a blog by someone who recounts a meal there: http://noodlenotes.wordpress.com/201.../pied-a-terre/ (the pic captioned 'The Bread!' enlarges if you click on it)... There were no big bits of bacon in it so I suspect crispy bacon was almost pulverised and mixed into the brioche dough with the sage... Trial and error would get it right! Super-Cali-Fragilistic!!

Well, as I said earlier, before cloughie pointed out the correct answer, I was happily convinced that I was onto something with the stock cubes (apparently, the company once used the tune of Que sera, sera in one of their adverts)!

I won't be able to put an S together until tomorrow, so if cloughie gets back before then, I think the laurels are rightly his. Failing that, I'll see you all in the morning.

Oh an early morning toot!, almost right on the button from Anna!! The three answers are in fact identical to one another - no Sonatas or Maidens invoived!

It's too close to mess around: they all three wrote a Rain Song - I was thinking the German "Regenlied"... Reinecke's I think for chorus, the other two for solo voice.
