Raft of the Medusa, brotherly love = homosexuality, used to be a Marxist (e.g. Symphony No 6 - Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh!), 3 Auden Songs.
        ?

            ?
I knew it was too easy for you Tapiola!! Almost 100% correct. His homosexuality was not what I was referring to but The Hoopoe and the Triumph of Filial Love and the Auden is the libretto for Elergy for Young Lovers. The Raft of the Medusa (the painting is by Theodore Gericault) was of course dedicated to Che Guevara and caused a riot when premiered. He also spent time in Cuba but his affection for Castro waned.

I think we'd better have another I think it's your round! So over to you for the I

Ahh, thanks for the extra information Anna and your corrections to my imperfect answer.

This shall be my pleasure. Same again?

              A quick and easy "I".

              Which I may be 7, 9 or 12?

              EDIT, sorry for the typo...

The ale must be kicking in already...

                Sorry, to reiterate:

                Which I may be 7, 9 or 12?
                (NOT 10)

They used it without permission; Howard Hanson, though apparently considerably less than gruntled with the situation, decided not to take action - doubtless because he was in his 80s (and as it turned out only had a year or so more to live) and had other things to worry about.

Shades of Ligeti and Kubrick's illegal use of Lux Aeterna and Requiem (I think) in 2001. Ligeti apparently considered a lawsuit, but then changed his mind when faced with the Hollywood machine...

And just maybe a few extra sales of his music on CD!

My excuse for these fumblings is a) stupidity and b) I am simultaneously trying to update a work website.

I fully accept that such ineptitude might forfeit my right to set this letter. If so, any volunteers?

                            Whilst Tapiola has a numerically-challenged moment .......

Briefly going back to Henze, I thoroughly recommend the dvd of L'Upupa und der Triumph der Sohnesliebe (2004) with the Vienna State Opera. Absolutely stunning sets and gripping (and opera is certainly not my favourite thing)

Thanks for the heads-up, Anna. I think I may investigate. I do like Henze.

A clue: they are all musical associations, though the answer itself is not musical.
