Bass guitar. Wiki doesn't say why he was called Plonk. He may have nothing to do with the solution

Indeed he was. And before the Faces grew had a number of hit singles.

Oh yes he does, don't know why he was 'Plonk' - would fit Piano rather than Bass!

U is included in the title of songs by the first two and then the third one is obvious!

oops, I've been under a misapprehension - I thought the word was ukelele, as played by Buffy
(and manufactured by a company called Decca)

The only U I can find in song titles by either of those artistes is "Up". The Decca connection is not obvious so I guess that's wrong.

I think I'll sit this one out till the next letter
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Which group is Decca part of?
                    Think Buffy, think Donovan
Which group was Plonk in and what minor hit did they have?

If you think I've strayed off the Classical stuff too much you're probably right but U is a beyound this world letter to match!
