Grace Williams wrote The Parlour! An opera.

Sorry, mercs. Assuming calibs is correct, would you like to set a early Hours H?

Can't connect the parlour and ornamental elements yet...
I suspected that nudge would help. Sorry I had to retire before witnessing the denouement...

Grace Bumbry indeed. (I think I've set this clue before).

Well done Calibs, and well done Flay for getting the other two.

I guess it falls to one of you to take us onto H

I think it was the capital B on Black that was misleading, no doubt deliberately. I kept thinking of Poulenc's Black Birgin...

Flay, how do you feel about Haitch? I've got one germinating, but if you h-h-h-have one in full flower, do go for it, unless Mrs F is hovering ominously about the breakfast table...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No "me sir, me sir, me sir!" from Flay. So h-h-h-here you go:

Dancing elves? What a load of balls! Diabolical!

I tink this would be Hubay
except I can't find any balls (does Hubay or ballaton mean ball ??)

Dance of the elves opus 86 - 3 Morceaux
Danse diabolique - either opus 10 Morceaux or opus 51 Morceaux

A rare 'no ball' from mercia...

Actually, more of a 'wide' as there are valid aspects of that answer, highlighted in red

PS1 The cricket analogies are not intended as a hint
                PS2 Good morning, mercia

Indeed. Joseph Hellmesberger II: wrote Strauss-like waltzy stuff (featured in various Vienna New Year's Day concerts) including (I know you chafe sometimes under Anna's Law ):

Elfenreigen (Dance of the Elves) - featured in Mehta's programme on 1.1.07
                      Ballszenen (Ball scenes)
Danse Diabolique (Diabolical Dance) - featured in Jansons' programme on 1.1.12

funny you should say that because I honestly can't think of an I though I have a silly J at hand

Huh?? You are misleading yourself: it was lower case black, upper case Venus. I could have uppercased parlour, but that would have made it too easy.
