Harty was born in Hillsborough, County Down, Ireland, the fourth of ten children of church organist William Michael Harty (1852–1918) and his wife, Annie Elizabeth, the daughter of Joseph Hamilton Richards, a soldier from Bray. Raised an Anglican, Harty played viola, piano, and organ as a child. Initially following in his father's footsteps, he held positions as a church organist from age twelve. He moved to London in 1901 to pursue a musical career as accompanist,

I don't mind who sets it, as long as it's at least grammatical.

                  OK, here's a 'D' question:

Amongst the oeuvre of three composers are three works..one each. D appears in the title of all three works. D is not a musical term but has something in common with a farm animal.

                  What is D?

Thank you. I was looking for 'child', that being the singular part of the answer. However, in order to allow us to move on, and in response to one of the more measured comments addressed to me recently, I have devised a 'D' question which I'm sure will bring you all endless hours of fun.

There is Sitting Ducks by Chiel Meijering and Squabbling Ducks by someone whose name I cannot now remember, but he is Chinese. Tchaikovsky The Ugly Ducking. The Marx Brothers, Duck Soup and, of course Villanelle des petits canards

Come on, now folks...it's just as gettable as, if not more gettable than, the 'C' question. Frankly, I'm amazed that nobody's got it yet. If I'd said just 'animal', you might have had reason to complain, but I've already given you a HUGE, non-cryptic, clue.
In case anybody was wondering, it's a perfectly serious question. It involves three different genuine musical compositions by three different genuine composers (actually, I've just realized that two people may have been involved in two of them, seeing as they involve the human voice. Sorry about that ), and one farm animal (another, more cryptic, clue). Oh, yes, the answer's singular - that's singular as in not plural, not singular as in odd.

Mussorgsky's song The Billy-Goat is a companion piece to his The Ragamuffin. But Goat does not start with a D! Will look in later hoping to see the answer!
