All this North and South but to (mis)quote a well-known boat song:

What care I for wind and weather?
Let me know boys, what the G is
As back to the game we play!

    It's somebody's big chance!

I return after almost three days absence somewhat bemused to note this subject still seems to be exercising the finer minds of the forum members. Time to let it blow over, perhaps?

Depends which direction you're coming from!

Well, I suspect Mercia was there already but too modest to step up to the plate.

Franz Berwald Grand Septet in B flat
Mikhail Glinka Grand Sextet in E flat
The quintet I confess is eluding me as there is a Grand Quintet by Weber who is a C (by any standards) and another by Georges Onslow but I think we are supposed to be looking for another M...?

Just back from walking the dogs. I had wondered if it was going to be a $1000 question, but could only find the Glinka sextet.

But I am flummoxed by the original thinking that found the target

You are indeed an by coincidence his surname begins with G and he also wrote a Guitar Concerto or three!

                              Mauro Giuliani?

He wrote a Gran Quintetto, op. 65 (two violins, viola, cello & guitar)

But surely it couldn't be that obscure? Or could it....
