Pelham Humfrey (London 1647 – Windsor 14 July 1674) was the first to prominence of the new generation of English composers at the beginning of the Restoration.
He died at the age of 27.
Peter Pelham (9 December 1721 – 28 April 1805) was an English-born American organist, harpsichordist, teacher and composer.
And of course, Spring Fever and Joy in the Morning are novels by Pelham Grenville Wodehouse

Joy in the Morning finds Bertie Wooster trapped in the countryside with his bossy ex-fiancé and her fire-breathing father, frightful brother, and beefy new betrothed. Uproar ensues until Jeeves arrives to save the day.

They don't make 'em like that any more

Nice clue Calibs, but I gotcha!

You did! A top class, three in one, fully Anna-compliant answer, Flay

        A fellow PGW fan!

        You have the Q...

BTW have you noticed this coming up on Radio 4? Saturday afternoon, with an eye-catching cast inc. the marvellous Jared Harris (son of Richard, fab in Mad Men and as Moriarty in the second Guy Richie 'Sherlock Holmes' film ):

Debonair Uncle Fred loves his role of 'imposter', especially that of an ageing cupid.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think we are Quite alone tonight, Calibs. But there will be no more Quackery in my Questions.

            I need a capricious Q that links:

A CBE with multiple personalities in Venice who could break ice
            A Welsh CBE’s concertante
And in the plural, a song involving a cross, but not midges

I glanced but am having to do some late work Didn't spot your sneaky tweak though

Actually, focusing on your puzzle, I think I remember the original version... which was somewhat... idiosyncratic...

Let me do some more work
And then come back with a ....

                Finished my work
                I'm back with a Quirk
                Or three
                You see...

John Shirley-Quirk played multiple roles (traveller, fop etc) in Britten's 'Death in Venice' and the lead in Tippett's 'Ice-Break'
Karl Jenkins wrote some concertos with the appellation 'Quirk'
There's an Ultravox (Chris Cross, Midge Ure) song called 'Quirks'

Way out of my comfort zone with the latter but google was my friend.

Is there anyone else out there?! Maybe they are all at salymap's birthday party, and our invites were lost in the post, Flay?

yes, I'm sure that must be the case

Well done! You were Quick! Has Quirk been done before?

Midge Ure had not joined Ultravox when they produced Quirks.

                        Oh pish tush

I had not picked up Mr Ure's absence from the relevant album...

It's late, so a nice straighforward R to link a singular instance of insular mortality, the campanologists' anthem, and a choice of cadenzas for a soloist...
