My apologies, cloughie: our posts overlapped and I didn't notice yours in my keen-ness to "research" the relevant works.

Indeed, gentlemen.... three Is for the price of one...

A photo finish worthy of Aintree (and one hopes no need to call in the vet for some of the other participants... )

Cloughie's slight chronological advantage compared with some very neatly explained workings from fhg.

              I like both.

There's only one way to decide.

              FIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!

Well, I've recently done the "G", and it's a full day's work tomorrow for me so I won't be around to monitor responses should such be necessary. So, if cloughie wouldn't mind ...

Well Ferney if you have a J at the ready I have no problem in you going ahead - I'm in the middle of cooking at the moment so cannot give it (ie J) much attention for an hour or two.

                    Quick'n'easy J, ferney?

                    Go on my son!

Nothing cryptic... (does anyone understand anything that's going on in that "cryptic Mahler" thread??! )

                      OK:

A G to connect Mendelssohn, Liszt and Sullivan.

                          It certainly should, Stanley!!

                            I can't even pretend it's a soft "g"! Oh dear!
Anyone care to give the above G a go? It's dead easy and by the time we've sorted it out, cloughie will have finished dinner to give us a proper J to perplex us delightfully.

all those celebrations catching up with you, ferns?

I shall apply my mind to your G ...

(I sympathise... Some months back I set a K when I should have been setting a J, got me alphabet wrong Luckily I managed to delete it before - I think! - anyone noticed... At least, if they did they were polite enough not to mention it... and that doesn't sound like any of the AA regulars )
