Gosh, Anna, I am perplexed. What a brilliant answer! Though it's not what I have on the card...

    The answer is a person.

Well, that rules out my zebra (hence the earlier reference to crossing). Somebody wore a zebra suit as part of the Ziggy Stardust set-up, and certain scholars dressed in animal skins.

          Is it Frank Zappa?

By George, it looks as if you've done it again! I'll leave you the honour of giving the reasons for your answer, and confidently await Tapiola's confirmation that you're correct (he's currently offline).

By Frank, you are correct, Anna.

May I ask what gave it away for you?

Well, you said it was a person close to Zippo and Zappa did Yellow Shark, David Bowie in his early years covered a couple of Zappa tracks I think but I cannot get the Arabic connection immediately (apart from Sheik Yerbouti)

Excellent, Anna. The Yellow Shark and Sheikh Yerbouti are both Zappa albums (Sheikh means "Scholar" in Arabic). The Bowie reference I was thinking of was that he named his son Zowie - there is a Zappa track called "Wowie Zowie".

Too much Bisto refers to the album "Lumpy Gravy"; "clue's [sic]" refers to the album "Apostrophe"; 'what's got into you' refers to Suzy Creamcheese in "Freak Out".

Is it too early in the week to offer you a ?

No, not at all! I'll have one of those wheat beers you seem to like (never having tried one, perhaps I should?) Of course, Zowie Bowie, I should have got that and the Suzy Creamcheese and Lumpy Gravy references, bit slow of the mark today considering I've got around a dozen Zappa albums!

I've been out all day and arrived home soaking wet and cold, so give us a mo and I'll see about an A

Then I shall join you in one of these:

So you are a Zappahead. Well I never!

                      'Tis horribly dank here also.

                      Cin cin.

Cheers Tapiola, yes, I confess to being bit of a Zappahead, I think ThingFish and Joe's Garage are my favourites. If you (or anyone) cares to recommend the best wheat beer I shall procure one! OK, here is an A which is probably fairly easy.

Which A might remind you of a quotation from Oscar Wilde, Lloyd George and bad weather?

I am clearly much less versed in Zappa than you, Anna. I only know Freak Out and Zoot Allures (which is a blast).

Recommendable wheatbeers? I like Paulaner, Maisels, the ubiquitous Franziskaner, Schneiderweisse, Weihstephaner... most of them really that I have tried, but would avoid Grolsch Wheat and Edelweiss.

                            I sound like a dypso...

                            Any other wheat suggestions, folks?

                            Hmm. "A" looks perplexing.

No, it's quite easy I think. Going back to the Zappa puzzle, I see Bowie did cover 'It can't happen here' and 'The Brain Police' when he was with The Riot Squad. Another piece of trivia. I still like my Zippo answer though!
