It's wonderful stuff, but I'm still not sure how it relates to the three composers above...

By the way, I see Caliban has achieved his 5,000th post on these boards. Congratulations are in order for by turns amusing, confusing, infuriating and enlightening us in seemingly equal measure

Good lord, no... What a sign of a mis-spent adulthood

        But thanks!

        It's been...

        ...emotional

Now this W. Not Waits (he has crossed my radar - mainly his acting, and his version of part of "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet"

Tell me if you need a clue...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Carrying on from your Prix de Rome puzzler, are these three works all prize-Winners?

Not to my knowledge and that's not what's on the card.

Ah! Didn't know that. Thanks for the explanation - I thought there was more to it than sloppy definition, and, being a crossword buff, needed to know.

(I was still floundering with Vilem Tausky and how he might have expired!)

Good Evening Cal, congrats on your 5000+, in my absence from the board you seem, between you, to have progressed swiftly down the alphabet! Been on the road but now safely back in Cornwall! Does W stand for William?

Thanks Cloughie, glad you're back safe....

William Sharp (baritone) recorded Bernstein's Arias and Barcarolles so I thought that might give me a lead!

1910. Or, more recently, in my mind, as a possible conductor starting with 'V'. (Remember - Friday Night is Music Night! And Saturday Night is Bath Night!)

                                No... It's not abstract, this W, nor a name. It's... a thing.

                                A rather small thing.
