Very neat, very well done. The ladder - rung thing just made me strike my forehead

I see from wiki there's an oranges and lemons passacaglia by GJ. But where do you get Jacobi from (other than it v skilfully fulfils the mission of the question)?

      Irresepctive: it's great solving

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Excellent, you've cracked it with cheese on top! Jacob's ladder between earth and heaven, Gordon Jacob's Passacaglia on a Well-Known Theme (Oranges and Lemons), and the apples

Gosh I'm so distractable... I am trying to check daughter's assignment on type 2 respiratory failure in a ventilated patient with COPD and HIV. I ought to be concentrating on AA

Can you please name the oratorio/composer for completeness, cloughie?

What about the all-seeing vigilance of Mrs Flay?!

Maybe Monday evenings she's out at Karate class....

No, she's here, unhappy when I sneak a peek at the computer. She has a bad back at the moment so cannot go out for her usual runs, hence is even more irritable at the moment.

Blimey, I was sure that must be correct.

I for one am going to need clues to chisel into one of your high-compression questions, Cloughie!

Meantime, my best regards to Mrs Flay and wishes for rapid relief from her back problems.
