I still don't understand many of the contributions on this h - but Don yours makes me think it might be:

        Hen?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

How tickled hi ham to read that, Cali!
Not the greatest thing that you possess?
Well, as you might say on another Thread, "What a beautiful day painting your face red, puring toffee on your hair, standing on one leg and saying 'How's that for a Toffeee Apple, missus?'"

Oh, no; my glass eye's dropped out.

I feel to be trapped in a world where everyone talks in riddles!

And where everyone knows something I don't!

Why do i get the impression everyone's got the answer but me, but no-one's prepared to stump up?!?

Indeed. I gather it's what you have in Slavery. (Though it's not really my field.)

Caliban is, of course, a creature fully versed in magic. Perhaps he will know, as soon as he sees the light?

doesn't Don Petter want to answer the question?

                      or FHG ?

Not me! You got it first, in #17139. (And we might yet be able to offload it on whoever gets the third reference. )

I thought I'd left enough hints
Indeed, mercs. Poor Caliban must have missed out on that part of childhood

The song is "Happiness." The tax reference was to his evasion case (he was acquitted). His barrister quipped: "Some accountants are comedians, but comedians are never accountants."

Wiki goes on: When asked by the judge, "What does a hundred thousand pounds in a suitcase feel like?", Dodd made his now famous reply, "The notes are very light, M'Lord."

I still don't know what the magic part is though
I'm going to have to confess to having set that clue after a couple of very nice glasses of Bowmore last night. The quote from the Magic Flute ("Tamino mein, o welch ein Glück!") is not an aria which I thought was the case last night.

                            Can't win em all, Mrs...

                            oh bother
                            Bother indeed
