Ich weiss nicht, was soll es bedeuten
    Dass ich so traurig bin
    Ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten
Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn

    Strangely apposite, wouldn't you say?

    F (my great-uncle)
    Born 15.12.1895
Died 26.09.1916 defending the Regina Trench.
His twin brother survived the war.
His mother told him the Germans had killed the wrong twin.
Perhaps that's why my grandfather never talked much about the war.

Looks as if no one wants to follow up this clue to the saxophonist and composer Edgar Sampson. Perhaps NB will do us the honour of moving along to T. I am very busy for the next few weeks so I shall be going into "lurk" mode.

Hey you two, behave! I'm telling Anna about you! She'll be cross...

I'm just catching up on all this after a pleasant day in the garden. We're all a bit different, perhaps a bit odd (me included ), there are bound to be irritations at times. Let's not start taking things too seriously.

          You mean the odd google-poach?

Well I find myself in New York City... preparing to return this evening / overnight after a spiffing weekend

Only notable restaurant visited was this:

I've been there a few times over the years, and each time have had the best steaks I have ever had anywhere. They sear them rapidly at 1800º and they are astonishing!

I have wifi and felt like a catch up here. It seems to have been rather a difficult weekend in AAville... I haven't followed everything but very much hope for a T from Norfs to take things forward! I shall try and get to JFK early and take a squint!

Greetings from Manhattan in the meantime
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

This is Terrible. We can't have big pauses here. This is AA which is vitally important! The show must go on! We cannot have Caliban jetting in from NY to find that we haven't progressed.

                So I propose a Tea-Time Topic: a T to link -

Sibelius: Valse Triste (originally written as part of Incidental Music for a play called Kuolema = Death. I don't think it was a comedy.)
Kallinikov and Tchaikovsky: Chanson Triste (both written for solo piano)

                        Usher

Debussy wrote The Fall of the House of Usher

Les Baxter wrote soundtrack for House Of Usher / The Fall Of The House Of Usher (1960)

Lindisfarne's song 'Lady Eleanor' contains refs to Roderick Usher

Oh poo, well done! I was looking at Unchained as in Melody. I found a 4 bedroom detached home for sale on Lindisfarne for £575,000, "Vacant possession - no chain," but was struggling with the Debussy

Wasn't Debussy more keen on Eastbourne?

Correct in all particulars, Ammie: and particularly well prettified, I thought!
                              The V is yours.

FLAY: I was on Lindisfarne last Summer. Gorgeous place, probably a bit chilly in Winter, but at £575,000 I'd want far fewer tourists passing my front window!

Yes it can be cold there - and get your tides right! I think I would want something looking a little older too
