                  The Sergio Leone reference is interesting, but curiously it was not what I had in mind.

                  But Leoncavallo is right (for one of the clues) ( and perhaps someone could provide the link to Oedipus?) - and keep thinking of lions...

                          indeed he did - indeed, it was his last (unfinisht) work - hence "ended" with a horse (Leon-cavallo) and "ended" with Oedipus...
