A model of compression!! Like a diamond. Very hard to chip into... Are we looking for classical pieces of music?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

this can't be the correct answer, but there are several trumpeters named Philip and at least two drummers

There are indeed, so which ones do you choose?

... pity, I'd been hoping the "two with a trumpet" might've referred to Purcell's "Sound the Trumpet" (where two countertenors 'play' the part of the trumpet... )

how about Philips Jones & Harper on trumpet and Philip Paul on drums ?

at 3am this morning I posted a ridiculous idea that the answer was Petrushka, with the second version requiring an extra trumpet and the first version requiring an extra drum

1 out of 3 , think crossover and pop/rock for the other two!
