The relevant Teatro Nuovo is in Naples. The relevant year is 1853.

Make sure you are looking for the musical version.

Hmm, nice day for an ice cream. Good idea

Playing Violetta is the rising-star soprano Marina Poplavskaya
The Lady of the Camellias . with the female protagonist, Marguerite Gautier, renamed Violetta
        Valéry.
Was this performed at the New Theatre Cardiff?

You should be looking for three distinct Violettas. The third is the heroine of La Traviata. The others are not connected.

Did one have a sympathetic string? Did Handel used it in Orlando (1733)?

More than one sympathetic string according to Grove.

No. From the additional clue that I gave a simple internet search should provide you with the answer.

I could stick my neck out and suggest that the Napes should have an 'l'

I think that completes the set. Cloughie seems to have done most towards this so I think he gets the honour of W.

You did indeed say that he invented the marina (at 04.15 this morning!)
