    There's no tax loophole for avoiding PAYE ...

    ... so, why aren't businesses required to pay up front like the rest of us.

      I once worked for a business that sold cheque-processing equipment to HMRC. The operation at the Accounts Office in Shipley is, IMHO, very well run by some very good people.

      Businesses have two weeks from the end of the tax month to send in the PAYE and NI they've collected. If they don't, they get an automatic reminder.

      Now, you might argue that Corporation Tax is collected later, and it is, but Corporation Tax is not a tax on income, it is an appropriation of profits (Tax Accountancy 101, Lesson 1), and calculating 'profit' on a monthly basis would be barmy for most businesses.
