Good to see that Antonio Pappano has been awarded a knighthood for services to music in the 2012 New Year Honours list : .

Very good news. He was fascinating to teach in a class of 12 year-olds in a 1970s comprehensive school - not always well-behaved and not accepted as conventionally musical by the school establishment. His talent stood out though - even if I never imagined he would reach the heights of the Royal Opera.

by and large (in the Arts) they are given to those who have the greatest visibility
