Golly! Good old Gorby has called for that little man with the piggy eyes to "step down." The most significant political move of the decade I would say. Acorns and all that. But will it get the mob off the streets?
Time's up proclaims Gorbacheff

God Almighty Sydney! It's Christmas Day! The mob should be at home quaffing loads of vodka or Guinness, and so should you!

Pardon me, Frances, I'm not great on orthodoxy. But I'm glad to see you up and about. What are you having?

sorry it was the midnight service I went too (or at least part of it - not used to standing in a fairly packed space for several hours and not feeling I was anywhere near old enough to use the few chairs placed around the side wall near the door)- this was at the small church buried within some ministry complex almost opposite the then Intourist Hotel in centre of Moscow - the difference in days is because the Russian Orthodox operate on the Julian Calendar - a further day slip came in 2000 as this was a leap year in one and not in the other - possibly my memory re the exact date was hazy tho I always chose the week after that containing the 1st Jan (for some reason that was always premium price - guess midnight in Red Square on 31 Dec/1 Jan was the attraction) - in those days either Intourist or Intourist/Thompson did the only affordable package tours (you could go individually but very expensive unless you went in summer as certain Trade Unions had links to summer resorts)
