Last year I got a gift, a candle flavoured with Christmas pudding smells, in a twee Ho Ho Ho metal box. I did not light it then but I've had it burning all evening. I think it smells lovely but it could have had odd side effects. Also, I watched the Morecombe & Wise, which was funny with Andre Previn, but who is Hugh Scanlon? Gosh, better put out the mince pies for Santa soon!

Scanlon was a trade union leader. Forget which - tut tut, for an old activist such as me! Stupid of them to broadcast clips including references no one will remember from old series!

So, I am not silly at not knowing who he is? Oh, old activists often lose it, do not feel bad. Honestly, that M & W was so funny with Andre Previn, I loved it. Such gentle humour I think. I would rather have them than Ricky Gervaise, even though he has a fancy, poncy, name, I don't think he's funny, but then, I expect he lives in Islington.

                Amalgamated Engineering Union.

I wonder how much of the general population know who Andre Previn is/was?

Ho ho ho everyone Festive greetings to all, and wishes for a peaceful happy day with a little of what you fancy
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

And I hope no-one is panicking that the turkey won't fit in the oven! Which has just happened to my neighbour, she put it on a trivet of onions (as recommended by Jamie Oliver) which made it too high So trivet had to be dismantled .......

Just been speaking to my sister, she's suggested we all go away next Christmas, somewhere hot and sunny. I don't know if I'd like that. Has anyone spent Christmas lounging on a beach?

Anna, Friends are at this moment probably opening a bottle of the local vino in Morocco. I don't envy them. No, I don't. I would not miss what I have done on Christmas morning for the last 40 years or so. After a champagne and smoked salmon breakfast at home, attended by anything fron 20 to 4 people - time passes you know - we repair to an in-laws' house where the hospitality is legend. Exchanging presents, accompanied by many calls of 'Slainte', shooting the breeze, lots of hugs and kisses, jokes, - another drink?, another mince pie? - you sing seconds, I'll sing thirds, one for the road?, have to see to the turkey, see you all tonight- hugs and kisses, 'bye. Get the picture? Here I am pre-Christmas dinner, and I'm all lit up like a Christmas tree, which is why I'm spattering the board with all sorts of inanities. God! I love Christmas. Don't you?
