    Nope. Me too.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

A state funeral for the wicked witch of the west would be quite a riot, don't you think?

I suspect /hope that the possibility of major disruption might give Them Upthere pause for thought.

I have no idea, but it's of little importance, frankly, given that this obsession - which indeed exists - goes far deeper than anything confined to "the Left" alone could do; the evidence in support of this fact is copious and omnipresent.

The petition now has more than 10, 000 signatories. Clearly this is an idea that Baroness Thatcher's admirers are getting behind in large number.

Any chance of someone explaining why it's an obsession and not a strongly-held legitimate view?

If one Prime Minister gets a state funeral, all should - and that would be silly. There's no reason for her to have one. Whatever sort of funeral she has, it should be paid for out of her estate.

Well, there's nothing to stop her estate tendering for the funeral. Their funding proposal would be examined by the Cabinet Office, or perhaps by a third party.

I wouldn't be surprised if the well-known would-be coupster The Hon. Sir Mark Thatcher, 2nd Bt isn't putting his thoughts down on paper as I trype. He'll have a few bob, you can be sure of that.

Personally speaking, not a day goes by when I do not despise the lady and her legacy, however I think this kind of dancing on her grave when she's not even in it is getting beyond bad taste and people ought to grow up a bit.

Some of us are perhaps bearing in mind the many whose lives she ruined, or ended, though her decisions during her time in office.

I don't understand why objecting to a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher is "this kind of dancing on her grave when she's not even in it." Unless planning a state funeral is this kind of dancing around her grave when she's not even in it. Margaret Thatcher will apparently be given a state funeral (or that's the plan) and people who think that is a wrong thing to do (including the Conservative Peter Oborne, who makes this very point) wish to raise perfectly reasonable objections while it's still possible to do so (before the event, as it were).

Is Francis Maude "dancing on her grave"?

I am just praying that Mrs Thatcher long outlives Francis Maude.
