Well, if you do and if you keep it I just hope that she doesn't have cause to refer you to a consultant neuropsychopathologistress...

My personal preference is for 'actrine' and 'waitrine' but you've hit upon the fly in that particular pot of ointment with 'doctor', Bryn - 'may I see the doctrine please?'

Indeed - but then another potential fly in the same pot is the aural similarity between "waitress" and "Waitrose"...

... my mother was irritated enough by the affectation my brothers and I adopted in calling her "mater". When I went further, and, on the victor/victrix principle decided that perhaps this feminine gender should mean that we should refer to her as "matrix" - she blew a fuse.

God, I was an obnoxious eight year old....

Of course, Ams ... what a pity your brain-train has finally arrived at the correct destination about three years behind the required schedule.

And so, scotty has finally thrown in his lot with the Miaow-Miaow tendency of middle-of-the-road satire.

Er - so what "schedule" might that have been and who was it that "required" it on what grounds, then?

But, even then, one of presumably smaller ampereage that that which she migh have blown had you reminded her of the fact that "matrix" rhymes with "dominatrix" (on paper if not when actually spoken, unless mispronounced)?...

Dominatrix doesn't rhyme with anything, in my book at any rate. Unless one goes along with that old joke:

                            Masochist: "Hurt me!"
Sadist: "Nooooo - heh heh heh!"
