I always enjoy the Emmasaying clips . Does she have TarrAYga, by any chance?

Two Czech speakers who confirm what scb said. Two stresses on the third (primary) and sixth (secondary) syllables. Forvo is the most reliable source I know of.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      .

... and where are we as regards Moldova / Moldavia ?

Interesting that English wiki and French wiki have very different takes on the name of the country, its etymology and its significance -

        Trump - Route pronounced Rout.

I don't think it uncommon but is it a regional variation?

For example, Get Your Kicks on Route 66 is definitely a root.

I heard that too. It was nice to have something else to complain about, other than the rest of what he has to say...

I've got so used to what now seems the only American pronunciation that I'd completely forgotten the song.

Router to rhyme with scooter or doubter? As Prof CEM Joad would have said: "It depends what you mean by …"

(I have both, but used to pronounce my broadband thingy to rhyme with doubter. I don't now though because I don't use my router very much.)

I always say rooter. I don't want to cause panic by making people think of a disorderly troop movement.

You call your router a rooter?

                    [OED says /ˈraʊtə/]

It is absolutely amazing how people will, with utter confidence, give their own pronunciation as being the correct one. What it means is 'I always say this'.

Richard: DO NOT LISTEN TO BOTH THESE PRONUNCIATIONS!!

I mean, why offer your pronunciation if you don't know how to pronounce it?

                      Or a woodworking tool.
The computer version has always been 'rooter' for me as it routes data, but my son said some years ago that the pronunciation now often goes either way.

I really must learn these phonetic symbols.

Tut tut - we are all now expected to keep up with these neologisms, or be sent down the Abergavenny salt mines for re-education!

"Rooter" for me, too - and for the chap on the telephone from the Post Office when I needed a replacement (before which conversation, I pronounced it "mow-dem" )

                              Quite right!

                              This:

is a router (as pronounced 'rowter')

Most Americans in my experience say "rowter" (as in "rout") - not "rooter", and "rowt" for a road.

Apart from pronunciation, some words are different. If any teacher ever goes to work in the USA and takes the kids on a trip, don't tell the kids to "get on" or "stay on" the "pavement". The effect may be rather different from what one would expect, and dangerous to boot.
