hommo - as shb points out - is said with the emphasis on some sort of latin torture applied to the word... some awful but proven fact.....(alllegedly)

never hear the term "heterosexual" in a similar context.

precisely ahinton! though it'd 'help', to find a similiarly revolting way of saying 'heterosexual' that brings about the equivalent archaic squimishness. perhaps emphasisng the 'tero' might do it? bit it's not the same context, so maybe not.

...or what about including other irrelevant sexual states?

    ' hampshire conservatives welcome malcolm smith, aged 32yrs, who is impotent';

'birmingham welcomes new conservative candidate, daphne doodle, aged 21yrs and sexually abstinant'.

'dorking welcomes new conservative candidate jerry berry, a keen biggamist, aged 26yrs'.

'leicester welcomes new conservative candidate, mary jobsworth, a sex addict aged 33yrs'

'hackney welcomes new conservative candidate aged 26yrs and a keen necrophilliac' ....

absurd that these details are placed before any details whatsover about a particular political perspective prefered by a new candidate. the public are not electing sexual states afterall, we are supposed to be electing politicians whose views we might agree with/not, and be influenced, and led by....theoretically.

i interpret the scottish announcement as annoying as the gibberish cameron spouted about the conservative stance, as regards gay people ... or similarly contorted utterances of supposed 'acceptance' by cofe officials about the ordainment of women: lip service about maintaining authority, and traditional patterns of prejudice.

South Dulwich welcomes me, self-impotent Buddho-Marxist Party candidate, with long experience in spelling mistakes.

A keen necrophiliac would prersumably at least know what to do about the decreasing space in graveyards for burials. And, as for "lip service"...

'Homosexual' meaning what Gore Vidal would prefer to call 'a same-sexer' is pronounced hommosexual because the 'homo' part comes from the Greek 'homo' meaning 'the same'.

If you choose to pronounce it 'hohmo' you are indicating the Latin homo meaning 'human being'. Thus we are all (with a few exceptions I s'pose ) hohmosexuals

I really can't believe that people can still think or produce this sort of rubbish.

To take the first point - the 'homo' in 'homosexual' comes from the greek for 'the same', as in homogenous, homophone, etc. Nothing to do with the Latin 'homo' as in 'homo sapiens'

oops - sorry, I see that Am has already dealt with that point.

The hetero-sexualists with their frequent fondness for belligerence have again and again over the past hundred years or so demonstrated that they are not up to the job; indiscriminate "demo-cracy" has failed.

If - as it may well do - the concept of "money" collapses in the course of the next few years M. Di Rupo will be the only leader qualified to show us the way forward.
Almost enough to turn this proud and erect Scottish Member into a puny Little Englander.

Maybe that hetero-sexualist Belgie-despising toff Dave has been right all along ... .

What a limp topic. Perhaps the OP should have the words 'Flaccid Member' appended below his moniker.

Not as daft as you might imagine. One of my jokes about happy-clappy Christians found its way to Radio 4's "Week Ending" in the '90s.
