Homo-sexualist in charge of Belgium gives us hope

It gives me great pleasure to draw to Members' attention the appointment of M. Di Rupo - a homo-sexualist and socialist - to the position of Prime Minister of Belgium. It has been a long time coming, but I believe it is the first sign of the future World Socialistic Government. The hetero-sexualists with their frequent fondness for belligerence have again and again over the past hundred years or so demonstrated that they are not up to the job; indiscriminate "demo-cracy" has failed.

If - as it may well do - the concept of "money" collapses in the course of the next few years M. Di Rupo will be the only leader qualified to show us the way forward.

But is he a Flem or a Walloon?

We now know that it is an advantage to go 19 months without a Government. Scientists must immediately draw up a plan to take this experiment further forward here in the UK. I suggest an initial period of 19 years.

Here we go again; another homosexual described as a "homo-sexualist" as though this were the result of some kind of professional decision! And we have not one but three redundant hyphens to savour as well! I occasionally wonder if you might have bought up a job lot of hyphens some time ago and are trying desperately to dispose of them one at a time these days because you have no further space in which to accommodate them.

If the very concept of money collapses (rather than merely the Euro, as is posited by increasing numbers of economists and others), what on earth makes you think - and on what grounds - that M. di Rupo will be "qualified to show us the way forward", still less the "only leader" capable of so doing? Indeed, what makes you think that anyone will be "qualified to show us the way forward" - or even that there will be such a way and some valid and universally recognised qualifications to do so were there to be one such?

Well, at least that would ensure that Jeremy Clarkson would not be UK prime minister for a couple of decades...

He's a Walloon (if that's the French-speaking section). The report in the Guardian said that he speaks very little, if any, Dutch.

I'm more pleased that he's a socialist than that he's a 'homo-sexualist'. I don't think that his appointment is a sign of a world socialist government to come, asny more than it's a sign of a world 'homo-sexualist' government to come. I don't share Mr Grew's rather naive view that 'homo-sexualists' are any less aggressive than 'hetero-sexualists'. Some people thought, or think, that a female prime minister would be less aggressive than a male one - Margaret Thatcher gave the lie to that!

As indeed did the governments led by Indira Ghandi, Benazzir Bhutto and Golda Meir, to name just three others.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Forgive my higgerance, but what precisely is a 'homo-sexualist'?. And is there such a creature as a 'heterosexualist'?

A regular whimsy of Sid's. It is believed that Sid avers that '-al' is an adjective and '-alist' a noun. Mind you when used close to 'socialist' as in Sid's first sentence I partially see where he is coming from; one would not call Tony Benn a 'social'. Of course, most people recognise that English, a bastard language, is very irregular.

Not without a vital hyphen, there isn't - but I say so only in endorsement of Chris Newman's explanation above, which effectively settles the matter in that these terms are Grewisms rather than accepted descriptive terms; English may indeed be the language of bastards, as Mr Newman almost said and almost certainly didn't mean, but it's also the language of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Dickens, Joyce and Burgess (although the last-named had quite a tendency to invent new words when unable to fiund existing ones that did the job that he wanted them to do). It's also the language of Jeremy Clarkson, although you cannot blame it for that.

Ah Chris but he says later "Socialistic" rather than "Socialist" so he is more complex than he seems. What I would like to know is when either should rather be "Socia-listical". I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable socio-logicalist answer.

If you really think that, then lateral thinking must be bad for you. Anyway, it's the contents of his statement that surely matter, the near-fatuity of most of them not-with-stan-ding...
