Yes, I heard a fox barking outside around midnight, first sight or sound of them since the summer, and felt my mood lift immediately!

Jayne - Yes, I like foxes. We have many locally.

I'm also really keen on these -

I would quite like people to treat this thread as one on which to place their pictures of favourite animals.

(NOT the ones Attenborough likes - them tearing each other to pieces).

      It might cheer us up.

      Lat.

One of my favourite experiences was meeting an orangutan in the Zoo at Doué-la-Fontaine in the Loire Valley. I say met, because they had an enclosure where one could handle tame animals; most had accidentally become humanised during care. This ape was with an attendant and looked at me with big eyes. The keeper said it was alright to stroke him so I put out my hand and it gently took hold of mine. It shuffled forward and jumped from its table and took me for a little walk before giving me a hug and returning me to its keeper. I also met a Boa-Constrictor but was a little nervous about the hug. It felt so smooth.

            Priceless, Chris!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

yesterday, at 6am I was awoken by an owl, hooting loudly. Normally they are vocal at around midnight, so this was unusual. I adore owls and the way they swivel their heads, they do seem very wise and all-knowing, don't they with their beautiful eyes?

Well, as the Gearbox said to the Clutch: One more grind like this and we'll have to get engaged!!

Mountain goats. They walk up the roads in Devon but were in the fields when I went there in October.

This one looks more like a sheep to me -

But this is just incredible -

Sorry Lat, I was being frivolous in my last. When I was last in Australia I was so taken with the sight, heading to the Blue Mountains, of a herd of kangaroos sweeping along in a wave by the side of the train. Silly, but I think roos are lovely. I have been close up and petted them as well, they have really sweet eyes and soft noses and paws.

Have you seen the goats in number 11? Amazing.

(I have half changed the title of this thread now but can't remember how to do the other half)

I haven't anything more exotic than our resident squirrels, but the two who scamper up and down the tree outside my office window always lift my spirits. Their antics never fail to put a smile on my face. We've rather spoiled them by giving them bits of bread.
