And here free of charge is Joan of Arc/ Jeanne la Pucelle, by Jordi Savall and Sandrine Bonnaire with the brilliant Spanish early music groups Capella Reial de Catalunya & Hespèrion XXI.

Plenty more where it came from.

Thanks, Chris, for the link (and from your Gruppen download thread). Site bookmarked - some very interesting and attractive material (and in the theatre section, too).

I spend more than enough time on front of a computer as it is-if I wish to watch opera and classical music I would much rather do it on my widescreen, 38 inch, HD Plasma TV with the sound being fed through my speakers than on my small computer monitor.

(Edit:- After I posted the above, I clicked on the link. After waiting for it to download -- I was faced with a small, definitely not HD picture with a load of distracting graphics in the corner of the screen. I'll stick with Sky, thanks very much.)

I hope you don't feel guilty about the environmental effect of those TV's !!

Mr P doesn't 'do' guilt about the impact of his actions on others (he doesn't much think about it, so it would be difficult for him to feel guilty)

                    I have a plasma telly.

But I do not drive a car.

                    Do you?

                      - download --
It comes straight down in about five seconds, then you click the enlarge box and it fills the screen. One of the 70s kids I guess. What did Roald Dahl call one? Oh yes, Verucca Salt, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. "I want it now!!!" she screamed.

Anyway, I do not have a 38 in, HD Plasma TV. I have my computer which is HD as I do not have room for a TV and the computer does everything I require of it. I put the sound through my Hi-Fi. My lodger has a humungous TV set but uses it to make his computer screen bigger so he can watch worldwide TV and play games. You could do that, Mr Pee! If I watched more TV I might get one for the very programmes I have suggested but I mostly listen to CD records. A downloaded Opera is a treat for me. OK this weekend I have watched Jonathan Dove's glorious Wagner Ring Saga and the Bolshoi's Rus'lan and Ludmilla but I thought I'd spoil myself.

I do not own a car. Think of all those Opera and concert tickets and CDs I can buy tickets with the money saved without a TV set and a car. And I have not stuck an eye-sore up on my listed building.

After nearly five years of mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness, London's funniest show by far is hitting the road and coming to the Alhambra ...

Oh dear. I wondered how long it would take for Mr GG to resort to his insults once again......

The Editorial in the current issue of Classical Music magazine provided some interesting reading. Part of it is below:

............Maybe the thing to try will be Daisy Evans' new work, for which she has just received a £30,000 Sky Arts Bursary...............Daisy Evans was among 863 applicants for the Sky cash, all of whom must have been pretty excited to find a broadcaster supporting the arts in this way. We take for granted the BBC's extensive underpinning of the arts, but it is heartening and more unexpected when a commercial broadcaster steps up to the plate. Our broadcasting correspondent Richard Fawkes is always telling me that Sky Arts has become a force to be reckoned with. As a Freesat cheapskate, I have to take his word for it, but it is quite clear that the channel is doing terrific work. Earlier this year came the first live 3D opera relay, when ENO's Lucrezia Borgia was beamed to screens large and small. No doubt the technology was impressive, but the amazing thing was the way an entirely moribund stage production was brought to life by the broadcasters. So three cheers for Sky Arts and for its award-giving Ignition Series. You can read all about it at http://www.skyartsignition.co.uk

Just a view from an entirely neutral arts journalist, Keith Clarke.
