Thank you, Paul. That is indeed the other, melancholy, anniversary. But thank you, BBC messageboards, for 10 years, mostly happy, always stimulating , messageboarding - without which this forum wouldn't exist.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

As I mentioned somewhere else, Andrew McGregor obviously remembers the old MBs fondly, as he referred to the Mahler fans on "the old message boards" during CD Review on Saturday...

          I wonder if he's a lurker here...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I spoke to one of the current R3 presenters last week and was very grateful that, as a 'lurker', he was more struck by the way we have tried to promote Radio 3 programmes, encourage people to listen and comment, than on some of the less charitable remarks against him personally. News is that another presenter took the opposite point of view - a perfect illustration of how different people are, since the second had far more bouquets than brickbats.

I hope Andrew does look in (and I'd bet he does), but the more discussion there is of Radio 3 programmes, the better the chances that presenters will look in.

What is it that St Stephen Fry said ? " There is only one thing in life worse than constantly appearing on tv and that is ... "

Well, life is pretty lousy, isn't it, for most of us ... [I've been on TV once - years later someone recognised me ]

.....a Kate Bush record which involves Stephen Fry?

(Slightly harsh but he is the new Terry Wogan)

Had the pleasure to work with him over several years. Can concur wholeheartedly!

I had a featured role on TV once. Yes, people still discuss that particular episode of Crimewatch UK!!

When I was fairly new on the old boards there was a thread (probably dozens) about members moaning about R3 Presenters.

I took the opportunity to 'complain' about Andrew mumbling into his microphone during his Saturday morning programme.

Very quickly he replied in huge capital letters and enquiring whether that was loud enough for me ... brilliant! ... I've never forgotten that disarmingly humorous retort which certainly put me firmly in my place.

Needless to say I've never complained about a R3 Presenter since!

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.
