How I wish I'd never heard..........

Do you have music with unfortunate associations?

Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours on at the moment. How I wish I'd never heard that man [?] intoning 'Hello mudder, hello fadder'. A pleasant enough piece ruined for me.

Well I thought that too... then I thought perhaps he had the measure of this rather trite melody!

yes, Allan Sherman - I sang along when that was played this morning, the two are inextricably linked

it immediately put me in mind of those old TV adverts for Cadbury's Fruit & Nut with Frank Muir singing "Everyone's a fruit and nut" to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy tune. (hope I've got the details right there)

        Danse des Mirlitons, actually

Sorry, Salymap, but I think Hello Mudder is very funny.

            So do I.

A work colleague from my first proper job used to sing to the tune of Haydn's Austrian Hymn a song which ended, "What a dreary occupation, Crushing ice for Grandma's piles." It didn't ruin this tune for me since I never considered it to be one of Haydn's finest inspirations.

I'm with Salymap on this one, for me it was the cringeworthy epitome of non-humour.

Does anyone feel Flanders and Swann's Ill Wind ruined Mozart? I don't.

No It's wonderful, and one of our resident horn players admits he loves it too.

I can't hear that particular movement without singing along. And great music can always survive any number of parodies. Does anybody else remember Tony Hancock's public health message to the tune of the Austrian national anthem?

Very dangerous thread this. I fear reading some posts may spoil favourite works. Shan't be paying too much attention

It's happened to me, most notably with Mahler 9

But I do agree with waldhorn about the Mozart HC
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
