There is a Barbirolli/RPO in No 2 available on Testament (coupled with No 5); that could be the one you are thinking of.

A select few of us have it on the Chesky label.

Those fond of the Fifth, but in a hurry, can always try making do with Floe:

Sorry to say I am not one of the elect, I don't have it at all, only his Halle version of No 2 from the 1960s (part of the box set) and a NYPO (1940) performance.

Wasn't there a recording of Barbirolli doing the second symphony with (?) the RPO? It was a World Record Club disc and was just about the best performance of the work I'd ever heard - a vivid memory from many years ago.

Belatedly, thanks for the suggestions. In the end I went for the Ashkenasy. Nice box too !!
Anyway, played no1 in a perfect (well very good) place this morning, driving along the A30 from Exeter to Bodmin, frost glinting, that sort of thing.
