I prefer my version! It suits my romantic/pessimistic nature
Whatever happened to......?

We didn't have nylon sheets in the US of A, or flannel for that matter. Until the 1970s, the only sheets we had were white pima cotton made in the USA. Sleeping on sheets that had been dried on the clothesline was a heavenly experience! I first encountered nylon sheets in Belgium when I went to visit cousins in the late 60s. The Swiss cousins, OTO had wonderful cotton sheets! I first came across flannel sheets at my in-law's house in England. Now, the big deal is to have sheets with a very high thread count.

We had Brentford Nylons. Is it my imagination or were there two kinds of sheet - 1. Brushed and 2. Slithery? Anyway, whatever happened to these prices? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR1aZ5ltvHo.
And whatever happened to nice static Christmas lights in traditional reds, yellows and greens? Almost everything locally is in brash and piercing blue and white. I am sure it flashes on the wave that could trigger epilepsy.Last edited by Guest; 29-12-11, 23:51.

.....Low train fares - Was absolutely staggered to hear tonight that the Italian equivalent to a £3,000 all modes season ticket from Woking to London costs £364. It would be worthwhile to have a bit of research to find out when the train rip-off began.Last edited by Guest; 30-12-11, 04:02.

... when was the last time any of us had correspondence addressed to us as 'Esq.' ???
It used to be the case that all the stuff I got from bankers/lawyers/accountants/poncey wine shops came in envelopes addressed (as 'twere) to "F X Vinteuil esq". Now it's always "Mr F X Vinteuil".
I know I was getting stuff as an esq back in the 90s - when did this disappear?
