fashions clearly change in all sorts of products .... currently the overtly 'scientific and very mechanical' prosthetic look seems to be favoured. as opposed to flesh tones and covert pretense.....

feeling pressured to wear an old fashioned corset in the old days, is not much like allegedly 'choosing' to wear a current day corset ....in order to have little/no air in your lungs!

Aztec bars were a bit like topics if I remember correctly.Looking here I was also reminded of Frys 5 centres.

Because the modern versions of corsetry (usually referred to now, gentlemen, as "bodyshapers") are very useful if one wishes to maintain a sleek silhouette whilst wearing the more fitted styles of sweater dress - which in winter I invariably do. Perhaps I (or someone less lazy - I mean, less domestically pressed) should start a "winter warmers" thread and list my outfits...

Oh, sorry, whatever happened to... er... I know, those sponge cake things which had ice-cream running through the middle. What did Walls call them back then? Ice Slice... Swiss Slice... Sliceberg... no, it's not there. If I can remember I may experience a madeleine moment.

never gone away from certain supermarket chains....you know the ones !! (sliceberg would have been a great name for it!!)

                      Anyway:

                      Kensitas.

All the letters and numbers from the half time scoreboards at football grounds. for those who don't remember or care, each ground had a row of lettered boards. each letter corresponded to a match, listed in the programme. so match A might be Arsenal v west ham. at half time somebody came along with extra boards showing the scores in the matches. trouble was you needed
                      1. A programme
2 to be able to see the boards.
3 be able to make out the numbers of goals.
It was a pretty rubbish system, but it did add a certain something to half time. it also helped sell a lot of programmes, since the scores could just as easily have been read out over the tannoy.

Gosh!!! Now you're talking. In Dublin of the 60s/70s they were, I think, Gold Shield stamps from H Williams supermarket in Sandymount. Anyhow, my mother would bring home these sheets of stamps which my Great Aunt Angela who lived with us would dedicatedly sponge and paste into a provided booklet to be redeemed Argos stylie against a range of products from a depot near Sheriff Street.

I'd assist and in time I was awarded with my own completed book which was sufficient for me to purchase a box of six matchbox cars. I was even allowed to make the trip into town on my own to exchange my book for my wonderful toy cars, although I was only 8. Different times, I suppose but it taught me independence.

The cars alas did not last the duration and at some point would become victims to a multiple pileup with real inflammatories on the patio.

How vividly I remember it all.
