Yes, sad news about McCowans, scotty. On an unrelated note, my uncle played for Stenhousemuir in the 30s.

Back on topic, what about lucky bags? And Wagon Wheels?

What a proud nephew you must be, mangerton!

Those were the days of proper footballing men with centre partings (making a comeback, I see ... the partings anyway) and wearing real leather boots, multi-layered with dubbin, running around on 6"-deep bogs, heading soggy, mud-encased spheres heavier than cannonballs.

Alas, I'm far too young to have witnessed it myself, but my dear old Dad certainly lived to tell the tale(s) ...

So, after being at school the past few days, time now to pay a visit to the tuck shop! Retro sweets galore coming up next... To start with, ...

I'm not sure I remember them at all, and the 70s was my prime era for the avid perusal of confectionery shelves... And yet seeing the wrapper rings a distant bell...

                      Was it a Scottish thing??
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Crushed red velvet bars with a glowing fire in the grate and the murmur of firendly voices with a hot toddy being prepared for Neddy who's got a cold, a slice of lime to go in Larry's bitter 'cos he likes it like that and Sam and Joe in the snug enjoying their afternoon pint as they've done for years upon years and Ted up at the bar who's outside every morning banging on the door well before opening time.

... They've all gone out of our lives, they've all gone out of our lives. :((
