To be fair to the likes of Peter oborne, at least he had something positive to contribute.

It is just conceivable that Marr (he hasn't been the same since he left The Smiths) and Paxman may yet come up with something original but I'm not putting my Jubilee bunting money on it

an interesting piece of evidence from JP regarding Piers M's knowledge or otherwise of how to hack a phone

EDIT - in fact looking back at PM's evidence in December, an extract from his published diary was read out saying that he was shown/told how it was possible to intercept voicemails in January 2001

..... certainly a ready familiarity with the subject not to say showing off about it ..
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Strange how business moguls develop memory problems as soon as they get into trouble -

Indeed. There is a cure. Jail them, then release them.

This certainly worked for Ernest Saunders.

And filletted Today could well be the day that Mr Hunt is holed beneath his waterline, never to recover

And the fact that Mr Cameron knew weeks in advance of appointing Hunt to make the decision about BSkyB that Hunt was entirely disposed towards the bid calls into question once again the quality of judgement operating at the top of UK government

Is 'grilled' above supposed to be a link? I'm asking 'cos it's in red, which customarily - here anyway - denotes a link (I got told off a while ago for not knowing that, so I alwys hover my cursor over red text). If it is it's not working for me.

this business of being expected to remember the substance of phone calls made a year or more ago - I can't remember phone calls I made a year ago and frankly I don't believe the enquiry counsel could either

Fair enough insofar as it goes but, if certain of one's phone conversations might one day come to be of such potential or actual future significance (such as the development of this long ongoing and loong to remain ongoing inquiry well illustrates), one surely has a responsibility towards oneself, to other participants in those conversations and to anyone else likely to be affected by their possible outcomes to record them and/or make written notes about them, just as everyone should do when there may be enough at stake to warrant their future questioning as is happening now; in other words, those who may in future find themselves needing to present evidence must first ensure that they've collected it! It's surely just one more manifestation of the old "ignorance is no excuse" argument, n'est-ce pas?

The inability of leading protagonists in this enquiry to recall significant details would appear to be in inverse proportion to their pertinence. Anyone blind to this or just seeing it as ironic must either be extremely naive or obsequious, imv.

well isn't that the benefit of hindsight ?
if I'd known an innocent phone call I made two years ago would return to haunt me today I would have made a note of it
I must say I'm still a bit mystified about what this special adviser's job was - it seems to be just a message taker

The only thought that haunts these kinds of people is that they could be found out.
