Having now watched the part of the McMullan testimony I hadn't seen, I think he is going to be one of the most valuable witnesses for the enquiry. Bizarre, rambling, hilarious, digressive and appalling though his evidence was, it was given with a total lack of self-censorship or concealment, a sort of devil-may-care naivety that was much more revealing about the practices of the tabloid newspapers. And although his world-view was very odd and obnoxious, there was also a hatred of the establishment and the wealthy that make him a real danger to his former masters. Very good though Nick Davies was, in an analytical way, he was seeing it from the outside - McMullan's was the view from the inside - much more interesting.

I pedalled into Aswan once. Very hot and dusty. Took a dip in the Nile to cool off.

So whoever you are in reality you're not Peter Maxwell anyone, then? OK.

I've read the above sentence a couple of times and it still makes no sense whatsoever.

            Goodnight everybody!

Thankyou Mercia, for that link to a news story from 2005. A somewhat obscure reference. And why Peter Maxwell anyone? I thought AH meant Peter Maxwell, anyone?

It's far from obscure to the extent that it's never quite gone away as a talking point - and, let's face it, the fact that mercia knew exactly what I was talking about as was accordingly able immediately to turn up and post that reference (one of many such, I imagine) clearly demonstrates that.

Who's Peter Maxwell? Is he another of that Kray-brothers-like bunch of financial thugs that went around thieving those things called pensions of which we've been hearing rather a lot lately?

Precisely what I wondered when I read your post. Why didn't you just call him by his proper name?

                    Talk about being wilfully obscure.

with Mr Thirllbeck (yes I know that's spelt incorrectly) currently on bail (I think), will he be limited in what he can say at the inquiry on Monday, do you think? I shall have to be content only to hear and not see the infamous fake sheikh.

It seemed obvious enough to others who I was talking about!

Speaking of proper names of composers, I always remember the late lamented Fwank Muir's definition of Elgar; Catalan railway station.
