    The Leveson Inquiry

I'm greatly enjoying watching Hugh Grant giving eveidene to this enquiry

He's much sharper than I'd thought previously and rather impressive.

The chap questioning him is good at keeping him on track and so is Lord Justice Leveson when he chips in.

Bravo to BBC for televising this

Took a squint, Anna, took a squint!!

All the previous sessions are available on the Enquiry website too: http://www.levesoninquiry.org.uk/hearings/

Steve Coogan tomorrow morning should be a good watch too...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Actually, Hugh Grant's closing statement was pretty good I thought. I may revise my opinion of him forthwith as no longer being a floppy haired cutie!

Really?! I don't disagree, but I seem to recall that you considered this whole thing to be a mere squall in a teacup that would be all over and forgotten about before anyone could say "Newscorp"; have you therefore changed your mind about this?

Gosh! A U-turn, if I might be so bold, Mr Pee?

No, I haven't changed my mind. I have seen snippets of it this afternoon, but generally I've had better things to do with my time than watch this. I just thought it was worth pointing out to amateur that Sky- part of his hated EVIL EMPIRE - were showing the proceedings as well.

An intriguing, and possibly worrying, side show to the inquiry is that the police have raided the home of Alec Owens (formerly of Merseyside Police) who was the lead investigator for the Information Commissioner's "Operation Motorman" inquiry, a whistle blower, and a critic of the ICO's decision not to interview any of the hundreds of journalists named in the 17,000 transactions listed in files seized from Hampshire private detective Steve Whittamore in 2003.

Alex Owens is due to give evidence before the inquiry on 30th November.

Taken at face value the story is very disturbing and makes me wonder whether the police are a law unto themselves.

Watching the news just now it seems there is some probability that the Milly Dowler voicemail messages, supposedly hacked into and deleted by Glenn Mulcaire -as alleged by The Guardian - may actually have just been automatically deleted after a set time by the mobile operator.

I trust that if this is proved to be the case, there will be a full and frank apology to News International from The Guardian, which has clearly been following its own agenda throughout this unsavoury soap opera.

Although I won't be holding my breath.

I rather liked, snippets I saw today, in the Leveson enquiry, the mix up between the 4th and 7th Commandments.

... must say that i have become a huge fan of the Inquiry ... it gives a wonderful portrait of our society both in terms of the evidence and concerns it is addressing and in its manners and processes ...

it is hard to see how the tabloid press will survive this .... and gives even more hope that the legal proceedings will be truly shocking and awesome!
