Phew, that's a relief. I wasn't relishing the idea of having to tell you that you're just not my kind of gal.

Ah, c'mon Anna, don't cry...it was good mindless fun while it lasted!

Caliban - I'm not much of a one for comedy, I'll admit, and certainly not film comedy. I (still) find the Henry Root Letters books as funny as the day I first read them, though.

You can't possibly have any interest in music if you don't rate Spinal Tap as in the top 11

You're referring to a couple of posts I made which I intended to be funny? Why, thank you for the compliment, little boy (or girl).....must be quite galling for someone like you who only ever succeeds in provoking indifference.

If Panjandrum was provoking indifference then you wouldn't have felt the need to respond.

I see a lot of the facial mannerisms of Malcolm Muggeridge in Prince Charles.

I think, to get the full effect, you need to picture me yawning, turning over the toast, then posting my response to his latest little whinge, in the manner that one might swat a fly - analogy that is entirely appropriate.

The Muggerishi could be amusing, in a court jesterish kind of way, but was fundamentally a lightweight. As for 'Merv the Perv', as he was known to many in the Gay Christian movement, he was a hypocrite through and through. I used to work with a member of that movement who was quite explicit about his own direct experience of the fiction of Stockwood's 'celibacy', yet he (Stockwood) did not hesitate to haul a lowly vicar over the coals for blessing same sex unions.

By all accounts, Stockwood was a 'career cleric' at a time when the CofE was still considered 'the Conservative Party at prayer'. I think it would have been expecting far too much of him to do anything remotely radical.
