David Suchet on Sid Field, 26th October BBC4 9pm

The Last of the Music Hall Heroes.

I've only watched half so far [on iplayer] but it brings back memories of a very funny com
edian who went out of fashion, rather as Danny Kaye did.

He died when I was a teenager, but I remember his 'Piccadilly Hayride', which I saw in a London theatre, and his rather bad film with Petula Clark, redeemed for me by his singing 'You can't keep a good dreamer down'. I had a record of the latter song and played it to bits.

Wonder if it's on Youtube or somewhere? Does anyone else remember him?

I'll try to catch this later, salymap. Here's a bit of a sketch he did with Jerry Desmond, taken from a rather good series that the much-missed (by me at any rate) Bob Monkhouse did:

1997 program about the history of camp humour. Presented by Bob Monkhouse, with Julian Clary, John Inman, Harry Enfield, Matthew Kelly, Paul Vaughan and Chri...

He makes me smile rather than hoot but you can see he's a class act. Thanks for your memories

I saw David Suchet in the play based on Sid Field, 'What A Performance!'.

One of the most entertaining evenings I've spent in a theatre.
