NEW ROUGH GUIDE TO CLASSICAL COMPOSERS CD SERIES
Launching 31 October 2011
World Music Network is proud to announce the release of a new series in classical music. Produced in association with the inspirational Hyperion Records, these classical Rough Guides offer a refreshing overview of the works of three of the most influential composers ever to have lived. Instead of the familiar ‘best of’ approach the main Rough Guide disc seeks to explore the myriad faces of the composer’s work while the bonus disc invites the listener to explore in greater depth one vital aspect of their music. The resulting release is a Rough Guide that is ideal for the complete beginner, yet also suggests new avenues for the seasoned listener. Enjoy a trio of albums and celebrate the launch of an exciting new Rough Guide series:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cover artwork of these three albums features old, precious paintings of revered composers handled or viewed by young living participants. This juxtaposition of the past and the present encapsulates neatly our vision for the series: the music selected here is steeped in tradition but presented in a new and engaging way.
The albums were compiled by Albert Hosp, an award-winning radio broadcaster from Vienna. Hosp presents a hugely popular classical music show on the Austrian cultural radio channel, Ö1. He also curates Austria’s largest world music festival, Glatt & Vrkehrt, and is a professional singer. His formidable knowledge of the classical canon has ensured a novel and dynamic selection of music on these Rough Guides.
World Music Network also worked closely with Hyperion Records on these projects. Founded in 1980, Hyperion is an independent British classical label devoted to presenting high-quality music. In 1996 the label was awarded the prestigious Cannes Classical Award, and has gained a name for releasing recordings of outstanding quality.
Each Rough Guide features a main compilation album with over one hour’s worth of music, and a full length bonus album designed to allow listeners to enjoy each composer’s work in greater depth.
Hyperion supplied the material for each excellent bonus album. A full length bonus album of recordings by masterful keyboard player Angela Hewitt is included with The Rough Guide To J.S Bach. Owners of The Rough Guide To Beethoven can enjoy a full bonus album of the composer’s Mass in C Major, Op. 86 performed by the Corydon Orchestra and Singers, and conducted by Matthew Best. Whilst The Rough Guide To Mozart includes an album of Mozart String Quintets played by the respected Salomon Quartet with Simon Whistler (viola).
With these three releases World Music Network hope to inspire listeners old and new to engage with the great tradition of classical music.
