    Here kitty, kitty

Theresa May : 'You couldn't make it up'.

    Oh wait, she just did.

... you would have thought she should have known better than to mention pussy ...
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

It could easily have been gleaned from the morning's copy of the Daily Mail. 'I'm not making this up', TM triumphantly cries. Oh yes, Theresa, I believe you ... with a saintly forename like that how could I not? ... but somebody did ... and it was obvious to any half-wit in the conference hall (unfortunately judging by the gasps even that level of intelligence appeared to be absent) that there had to be a lot more to that particular story.

It was good to see Ken Clarke later ridiculing the whole thing and demonstrating that there is at least one person possessing anything that could be remotely described as a brain left in the Tory Party.

Mind you, as has been noted elsewhere, the current crop of Labour politicians are no better. You would think they hadn't been in power for twelve years the way they prattle on about 'the cuts' and Ed Balls once again continuing to expertly live up to his name.

Pathetic all round ... almost enough to make me join the Liberal Democrats ..

Just for balance - Damian Green read out part of the judgement on "Newsnight" last night. Whilst it may not have been the main or sole reason why the individual was allowed to remain in the country, the judge did in so many words adduce the fact of joint acquisition of the cat [called Maya] as evidence of a family life. So the judge did mention the cat.

I like paragraph 7 of the original judgement

            7. The Immigration Judge’s determination is upheld and the cat, [ ], need no longer fear having to adapt to Bolivian mice.

The news seems very feline at the moment - even bunny-boilers seem to be kitty-boilers these days - and my sympathies are firmly with them.

But we are urged not to let them roam free because the bird populations suffer....

So Fido may have to stare at his "friend" through a closed window.

Brian Mawhinney came similarly undone in a typical act of conference mockery and dissembling when he slated a left-wing council for giving money to teach hopscotch to asian women in a 'you couldn't make it up' speech to another tory party conference.

It later transpired that the group in question was a much admired and appreciated in its community and happened to carry the name of hopscotch.

Not to labour a point, but perhaps it's worth remembering that Thatcher's loathing of left wing local authorities led to the promotion and adoption of the notorious Section 28.
This all arose from a falsehood spread at the Tory Party Conference about forcing gay literature into schools.

However, perhaps Teresa May's cat is the Schrodinger variety, since all Coalition policies are based on the Uncertainty Principle!

... nice Peter Brookes cartoon in The Times - 'Kitten Heels Meets Hush Puppy', with Theresa May squaring up to Ken Clarke while his famous shoes have their jaws around her kitty shoes

                        And today's Telegraph headline:

Cameron to get claws into Human Rights Act.

                        Kitty has claws?
