Just a thought - why didn't Holst write an Earth movement in the Planets?

Holst was concerned with the astrological meanings (and so doesn't include Earth). But he didn't originally give them 'planets' titles. The autograph score says "Suite for Large Orchestra - 1. The bringer of war; 2. The bringer of piece, etc.

                  Alan Hovhaness: Mysterious Mountain

[Edit] I was wrong. Holst's title page says "Seven Pieces for Large Orchestra - Gustav von Holst, Op. 32". The movement titles are as I said.

Oh! I thought it was because the Earth wasn't discovered until after Holst wrote his suite?

That might in fact be so.

Hope you're having a good Christmas, Ferney.
