Most of the war horses have been used and many of them certainly more than once on top of that, but generally speaking: you cannot know for certain.
If one has been used previously, there is a chance it will be pointed out. But as it's only a game, why not using it - Strauss even nicked a Bruch melody " 'cause it's too beautiful to be used only once" .
