The Guardian seems to be playing its cards close to its chest with " ...Former police chief whose corruption convictions were quashed says he has returned to Scotland Yard"

The Daily Telegraph appears to have no such doubts

but clarifies with " .. is understood that although technically reinstated, he has been immediately suspended as he awaits a retrial on charges of perverting the course of justice and misconduct in a public office.

However the decision could mean that Mr Dizaei will once again be paid by the Metropolitan Police as he awaits trial. He will earn in the region of £90,000 a year"

The Guardian seems to have relied only on what Dizaei himself said and that doesn't seem to have been the whole truth. The reinstatement was probably a necessity if he is being retried.
