A good report on the Solheim Cup which Europe retained over the weekend against America. It's worth mentioning that Leona Maguire who gets star billing in that report made her debut on these boards some years ago. BTW, should non-membership of the EU affect selection of the Team for Europe? I hope not.

In other news, I see Barnard Castle hit the headlines again last week when local teen scored two holes-in-one in one round of golf, and because he is under-age he doesn't have to buy everyone a drink. He clearly had his eye in, unlike someone else who visited that part of the world - I still dream of that chance of a hole-in-one...not too late...yet! Hope springs eternal!

Congratulations to Sheffield's Matt Fitzpatrick, holding his nerve to take his first major at the U.S. Open in Brookline. His bunker recovery at 18 brought back great memories of Sandy Lyle's bunker shot on the 18th at the Masters in '88. Brilliant stuff. Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Amateur Championship at the same course nine years ago - nothing like a spot of local knowledge.

Some people may be aware that I love the Hebridean Isle of Iona and that I love a game of golf on the Island's course. Perhaps this video of an American visiting the Machair's links will give an idea of why I love playing golf there - the fourth tee is my favourite view in golf - the only thing missing in the film is that there's normally a bit more sheep shecht on display than was evident in the vid.
