You have shattered my blissful life of ignorance. I knew life was never as simple as one hoped… Ah well, I shall survive.

My avatya' picture, which has so far failed, I think, to raise any comment from good Anna, is I confess, not me at all ...

Is there such a word as "gotta"? It appears a few times on this thread, but I can't find it in an dictionary.

Here's a thought: if there are costs to the board, why not have FF set up a Paypal donation-enabled site where people could voluntarily contribute something each month? List the expenses, and people could kick in a fiver, tenner, or whatever they feel like. No pressure--if a hundred people gave just one pound each month...see? I think that would be a marvelous way to show support and take the financial burden off one or two individuals.

There's a difference between poetic licence and slang which combines a verb and a preposition.

paypal is totally unregulated + extremely dodgy in its actions - avoid at all costs - the well publicised stopping of Wikileaks is just the visible tip of other reported problems - typical US operation feel the cash and damn the customers.

I find the use of gotta, em, waraya, innit, waza and such terribly useful when denoting conversation from the street....when I am being a proper jazzer, I of course put aroony on the end words....

....does anybody else here like to ape the working classes....????....

Just a quick word. Costs of the hosting of the website fall to FoR3 which is a separate entity and therefore do not involve forum members. The forum software licence has been bought with two donations and includes service and future updates, so no further costs are envisaged at the present. Increasing the website's bandwidth because of the traffic upsurge due to the forum is being watched, but isn't at present an issue.

Edit: Word from Mark a moment ago: "I checked our bandwidth after four days' usage. We're still well within our allotted quota."

Well, as someone who used to work in nonprofit development, I still think it's a golden opportunity for a little fundraising.

Frances_iom: Paypal is not totally unregulated-- do you honestly think the US FiNCEN anti-money-laundering authorities would let such a thing slip through their radar? Hardly! Visa and Mastercard wouldn't do business with them if they thought there was anything sketchy going on that could remotely get sued over. Remember how they dropped the US poker sites at the merest hint of legislation? Trust me, if it were unregulated, Visa and MC wouldn't touch Paypal with a ten-foot pole.

It's true that Paypal's fee structure favors big merchants and disadvantages the little guys. However, when I was freelancing, I used to have a Paypal account for selling vintage clothing on Ebay: over a hundred transactions, and a perfect 100% reputation: all my customers had no problem with using Paypal to handle their transactions. Everyone got what they wanted, I got paid in a timely and safe manner, win-win.

Say what you will, it's much safer than trusting individuals with cash or your credit card number!

I agree. Speak as you find. I've had over 800 transactions through PayPal over the last three and a half years with no problems whatsoever, including several refunds for undelivered or incorrect goods.

I think the donation idea is a perfectly good one for the future should it become necessary to keep a flourishing board going.
