Hardly merits an hour's scheduling even if they include the Deems Taylor commentary! However if not exactly essential it is certainly a landmark recording. Mention of 1812 always reminds me of the review of the LAPO Mehta when it first appeared, described as 'not a record for small machines or semi-detached houses'!

Maybe one of Haydn's Sal(o)mon Symphonies or something played by Julian Bream.

                  Irresistible, this.

"The heavens are telling the glory of Cod" must feature.

                  Some saucy arias for Bass.

Bleeding chunks from "Eel Trovatore", maybe?

Given R3's slide, can we expect the s(h)immering strings of Manta-vani?

A look at the vital work of the piano tuna...

Ah! last one for now: Fauré's delightful chanson "En Sardine"

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I'd be very happy if Radio 3 resurrected "Your 100 Best Tunes" at 9.00 p.m. on a Sunday evening and left the rest of the week with decent programmes.

The way things are going, we'll soon have 167 hours per week of "Y100BT" and one hour of what used to be Radio 3 fare.
