And don't forget Music Services. We thought they were being given a reprieve by the government's "acceptance" of the Henley review and the promise of the same funding for another year.... except that the Con-Dem con-merchants extended that year by a further 5 months, so the 12 month funding is expected to last for 17 months.
And of course, the more money that is diverted away from LEAs to fund academies of free schools, the less money will be available to council central services, such as music tuition.

I nver fail to be amazed at all these posts accusing the government of all sorts of things when it tries to reduce spending. Every special interest, every vested interest, pops up to moan.

Can these people not realise that WE ARE BUST? There is no more money to spend on things other than necessities. We are up to our eyes in debt, thanks largely to years of socialism buying votes for useless projects of naive ideaology and social engineering.

And if we don't manage to get back towards some sort of income/expenditure balance we shall fail in the most horrible way, with all kinds of societal collapse. (Well, they will in the cities, anyway).

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that this lot have got it right by any means. Still far too much waste and too many pigs at the trough. But at least we've made a start. And if that means a few ancillary council services go, then that's the way it will have to be, Shame it's sometimes music, but then, I voluntarily do music every so often with a local school, so maybe more will do the same and we can keep something going that way.

Heaven help the children in your local school then
of course music is an extra , not really important and doesn't really need anyone with more than a basic knowledge of key signatures
Socialist Social Engineering ??? You mean like "Free" schools then ???
        Or the assisted places scheme

young people deserve more than well meaning people with time on their hands "keeping something going"

Like Trident, foreign wars, and the royal family?

There certainly are - most of them at Westminster, in all parties, and quite a few to the east in the city of London where all the trouble started.

So I suppose it was years of socialism in the US (the Bush regime) that brought about the whole financial collapse. The wealthy fat-cat bankers had nothing to do with it, I suppose. So let's spend it on "Necessities" like the bankers' pensions and bonuses. These continue in spite of all the hardship they have caused for others. I agree that these people should not have to pay a 50% tax rate. Make it 200% until they've repaid what they've gambled away.

In the same spirit of the bog society I thought I might have a go at a bit of surgery , it cant be that hard , can it ? In preparation i've been using this extremely efficient training tool http://www.tvscoop.tv/operation-game.jpg and watching a few youtube clips.

Er - but there's a slight problem with that, surely? They'd have to obtain the extra tax by - er - what's the word? - ah, yes - borrowing! What fun! Back to square one, only that the square will by then be considerably larger...

                            Hmm.

As I said to scotty a day or two ago elsewhere, I don't take offence easily on these boards. I certainly don't believe in censoring opposing opinions and I don't go running to ff if I read something I don't agree with.

However, the above post from "eighthobstruction" is pushing it a bit, in my opinion. I found it distasteful.

For the record, I give a fair chunk of my free time during termtime to helping kids with music and performances. I don't want medals, as it's enjoyable and it's rewarding to give a bit back.

But I don't appreciate it leading to the sort of links like the above, especially when my family lost people fighting the Nazis, a regime that of course I can't personally remember but whose ethos I detest, as do all right-thinking people.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else thought the link in good taste, fair and appropriate.
