    A Cure For the Doldrums

I have found a means to relieving much of what troubles me in the world as it is today.

Sitting in front of your computer, Google ' Han-Na Chang.' You will be given the choice of videos of this young cellist playing the Haydn C maj. cello concerto.

Select the last of the three movements, relax & then enjoy something very special.

I hope it works for others as well as it does for me.

Is it all right if we suggest our own cures for the doldrums? I'm thinking of one or two of my own. One has to be so careful with being on-topic!

Thank you salymap. Not completely well but surviving. Have given up the viol & have returned to the 'cello.
Back to doing dreadful things to the Bach suites 1 & 3. ( they suit me for having few sharps or flats ! ).
Will try to contribute more from now on. Like how I attended three schools throughtout my life & was expelled from
two of them. This was only for playing truant, nothing serious, but it gave me the opportunity to spend my days wandering about Charing X Rd., Foyles, Zwemmers & other fantastic
bookshops, the National & Portrait Galleries as well as a variety of concerts & recitals & perhaps most fondly remembered were the recitals by Myra Hess at the National Gallery.
I also fell madly in love with Ida Haendel. ( " You stupid boy ! ")

        More anon, gamba

My favourite cure for the doldrums is Hummel's "Military" Septet. What a fine musician young Nepomuk was

(And where there's Nepomuk, there's brass)

Oh, Waldhorn. Isn't it lovely? I first heard it with Jascha Horenstein at Maida Vale. Georgeous sunrise music. Mind you, you're biased . Love his Springtime in Funen and Maskarade Overture. Real pick-me up music.

A work I love is Rossini's little String Sonata no 1, written when he was very young. Stick with it,the last bit is wonderful. Sorry, can't do a link

Afraid not. It's for strings, although there is an arrangement for wind and brass I believe.

How about this one - just the 3rd movement ... but a well-known bit of tune!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
